Outdoor Insulated Hides

These hides are intended for outdoor use as shelter for hardier species such as Hermann's and other Mediterranean tortoises.  This allows them to be outside as soon as they wake from the hibernation in early spring and until late summer.  Please note that the temperature variation of mediterranean tortoises in their wild climate is from 16-26 degrees C.  If the temperature is regularly below this temperature a heatlamp should be provided outside in an appropriate shelter like our All-Season boxes below.

Outdoor Insulated Hide construction details;  

• Tongue and groove solid wood cladding outer walls
• Double skinned walls, roof and base to create an insulating air cavity with a layer of bubble foil insulation.
• Pent style felted roof sloped from front to back to keep the door side dry
• Base is raised with wood bearers
• Elevated door allows room for a depth of soil/sand substrate inside the enclosure essential to prevent dehydration (plastic trays (additional charge) can be provided on request for easier soil replacement and handling.
• The floor and lower half of the walls are waterproofed when painted with a hard-wearing water-resistant floor paint. Please note item will not painted as shown in display. A brush and tin of paint will be provided.
