Thermostats

The major positive gain with all thermostats is that they save electricity and reduce fire risk from heating sources.  Thermostats control the temperature under heat lamps by adjusting the power supplied to them.  All heating equipment should be monitored carefully to ensure they are working correctly as the labelled temperature is rarely the correct temperature.  They should be kept clean and the electrics inspected periodically too.

Dimmer Thermostat (with 5 year warranty)

This type of thermostat is ideal for use with reptiles who require a constant heat source.  The dimmer function gradually turns the heatlamp on and off ensuring the bulb element lasts well.

Tubular Heaters

These heaters are ideal for maintaining a steady background temperature either instead of heatlamps or to elevate a cool end temperature for tropical species.  Thermostats cannot be used with tubular heaters.  Care should be taken to ensure the desired temperature range is maintained throughout the day and night by use of insulation where appropriate.
